The Tyne bridge is one of my favourite subjects, along with the Swing Bridge behind. The green colour of the big steel girders contrasting with the red and white of the arch below. There’s so much detail to pick up on and it’s very easy to get lost in different layers as you travel down the river.

In keeping with the beautiful summer we’ve had, it seemed only right to feature the Tyne bridge in an ocean of bright blue tones. I’m hoping the flat colour of the clear sky balances out the more expressive blue on the surface of the water. The view is taken from the Gateshead Millennium Bridge focused straight along the river.
Created for a private commission, this painting has since been used for a 150 x 150mm greeting card printed on 300gsm TRUCARD stock.
