I started this painting intending to enter it for the annual SERCO illustration prize. It’s a scene of typically bustling London life. Unfortunately the deadline came around too quickly, so I finished the painting during the spring, when I had more time. I had to compose the canvas using several different photographs and sketches. The surface is relatively smooth, showing off some of the bobbles and layers of the acrylic paint (despite it’s normally flat appearance). The drawing was completed with a black outlining ink over the top of the paint layer… finishing the piece with a thick layer of varnish to bring the colours to the fore.
